The works of leading writers Péter Nádas and Péter Esterházy share the theme of the central place history plays. Péter Esterházy is a former footballer descended from a well established Magyar family, whose fantastical and overwhelming past he revisited in Harmonia cælestis. At the end of the 1970s, he embodied the new Hungarian literature. His sharp eye scans a wide range, from seriousness to mischief. Péter Nádas displays intense sensitivity, which translates into his books as unruly narration, haunted by the idea of chaos.
